They're pretty quick to read, so I could easily catch up. I need to spend some time exploring Goodreads one of these days. I have an account, but found it confusing at first glance.

@notagain - it'd be fun to have another type-in at some point later this summer, if just a small and quick one! Maybe even a type-out, if we get a summer someday. It'll be fun to hear how your travels went.

@Bill - as I discussed with some friends, we lost Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson - both of them musicians who pretty much defined how their instruments are played in their genre - within two months and a day of one another. Rough year.

@Jeff - everyone keeps recommending Steve Martin's recordings, so I'll have to check them out one of these days! I really like Pete Wernick (of Hot Rize) as well, though there was a time period when he liked to use some really odd distortion effects. On a banjo. That just ain't right.

Irish banjo is quite a different animal, though. Check out Mick Moloney's album Strings Attached for examples of what both mandolin and banjo sound like in Irish music: the album is about half banjo and half mandolin. The ornamentation is currently giving me fits, though it's a lot of fun to practice.

And thanks for the warning regarding the Staples pencils!Elizabeth H.https://www.blogger.com/profile/09161162407130146871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36092055.post-40442151873122866372012-06-06T03:30:59.666-07:002012-06-06T03:30:59.666-07:00Welcome back!

That banjo looks really neat. Keep us posted on your progress with it. (Suggestion: Steve Martin, the comedian and actor, is an excellent bluegrass banjo player. Check out his CDs.)

Avoid the Staples brand pencils made in Indonesia. They are terrible, even at their cheap price.

Thanks for the mention of the Terry Pratchett books. They sound like fun and I learned our local library has most of them.

BTW, I've got another use for Lamy Safari fountain pens: they are excellent for pen and ink drawing.

Jeff The BearAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36092055.post-64312621577069631302012-06-06T02:14:53.851-07:002012-06-06T02:14:53.851-07:00You've got quite a lot on the go.
