But I can stop any time I want.

  1. Wait -- is there supposed to be something wrong with inhaling the spicy, luscious scent of a freshly sharpened lead and the wood core that ..... excuse me, I have to, um, go do something now.

  3. Richard--oh, goodness...now I feel the need to go dig some shavings out of the pencil sharpener, STAT.

Peter--thanks for the laugh! Maybe I'll start adding PS to my e-mail signature.

  5. Oh yeah, that's a good smell, too! Especially Prang crayons. I remember as a kid, I liked Crayola crayons best for actually coloring, but ooh, the smells of Prang and Roseart crayons are nice!

And then there are the smells of construction paper, and Cray-pas, and that vinegary kids' markers smell, and the wintergreen smell of paste...

Come to think of it, I guess I've done an awful lot of snorting school supplies in one way or another over the years.

  6. Never been much of a pencil sniffer although I like the scent of a manual typewriter with a fresh ribbon. But I sure miss the smell of the paste we used in early grade school which always reminded me of root beer or sassafras. And I REALLY miss the aroma of pages fresh from the mimeograph machine. (Wonder if anyone still makes or uses them.)

Does anyone else like the smell of a freshly opened bottle of Noodler's ink?
