I just love that big honkin' Olympia. Sigh.

I've made the same resolution/rule about new typewriter purchases. It feels like time to use the tools instead of accumulating them, so we can support each other in this.

Pens and ink and paper - that's a tough one. You're a better woman than I am.

Are graphite pencils within bounds for you? (or is this an unfair endrun around your resolution?)

Well, if you are away from New England, that means you can keep a safe distance from Bob Slate's on Harvard Square, cambridge! What a candy store that is!!

Amazing self-control, this. I'll do my best not to toss temptation in your path, especially since I'm such a weakling myself. When an Office Something (Max? Depot?) closed and priced everything on Crazy Liquidation Discount, I ran through the aisles, grabbing every Black-n-Red spiral-bound A4 book I could lay hands upon. I have WAY more paper standing by than any sane person should have, especially one who wrangles bits and bytes for a living.

Well, I made it through the first week, but not without a great many temptations. I'm beginning to think I'll have to ban myself from large portions of the interweb if I'm really going to pull this off.... 'Cause as it is, I want about three new ink colors, I want to try a couple new types of paper, and also came close to snapping up some notebooks a guy over on the fountain pen network was selling, just because the price was good.

Speculator--don't tempt me! If my mind can find a loophole, it's going to try to use it. And you've gotten me thinking...I said I wouldn't buy anything unless I really ran out, and I don't own any pencils except for a few of the soulless mechanical variety, hence I'm out...right??

So far I've never found myself faced with an office supply store in liquidation mode. Heaven help me if I ever do!

Oops- sorry about that!
I'd mail you a few pencils, if it encourages your writing (on your existing notebook stock, of course!)

Hmmm... mechanical pencils are rather soulless, unless they're Scripto or Caran d'Ache

Hm...maybe I should take you up on that....

This is all about simplifying my life to focus on what really matters, after all--and it doesn't come much simpler than a pencil, no?
