1. I finished Peace Like a River about a week ago, and enjoyed it to the end. It's kind of a hard book to describe--part pretend Midwestern memoir (though it's so vivid, I have to believe at least some of the memories are things the author actually lived through), part outlaw adventure story, lightly sprinkled with miracles. And, as I said, plenty of typewriter content. Definitely one of the best books I've read in awhile.
2. Continuing from the Bejeweled is Evil subject of a few posts back, I think I need to de-technologize myself a bit in the next little while. Lately it seems like I get up, mess around on the computer for an hour, go to work where that's pretty much all I do all day, come home and play computer games or watch TV until after ten, go to bed, and then do it all again the next day. It ruins my concentration, wastes my time, leaves me jittery and unfocused. Not to mention it means I never get any housework or writing or reflecting done.
I'll be spending most of November tethered to the typewriter in one way or another for NaNoWriMo, and want to use most remaining free time for thinking, reading, and other more profitable activities. Following on November comes Advent and Christmas, and there too it would be a far better thing for me to quiet my mind, detach from the more frivolous computer time-wasters, and focus more on the important things in life.
3. Speaking of anxiety and lack of focus...my SG-1 should be ready to pick up the weekend of the 7th. Is it 11-7 yet? Is it 11-7 yet? Is it? IS it??
UPDATE: they called THIS AFTERNOON, and it's already done!!! I'm astounded! And trying to decide if I can drive down there tomorrow on such short notice.
4. I still haven't decided where to jump into my story. *sigh* The beginning of it is likely to be UJTU-like.

I'm really going to have to check that book out. I hear nothing but good things.
And shake yourself free of your electronic shackles, my li'l flowery petal-y friend. No good can come of spending that much time on the FacePlace.
You might actually get yours back before me!! I called again to see how everything was going. He said that he has been super swamped and it should be done sometime next week. But then add on shipping time... *argg* I don't know if I can wait that long!
+ I want to read that book. Sounds great!
UPDATE! I just got a call from Blue Moon, and they said it's already done!!!!! Just wow...that was fast!
It's supposed to be rainy and scary tomorrow, and I'm technically on call, but I'm still wondering how bad it could be if I head down there really early again and get to Blue Moon just as they open. Otherwise...it could be awhile.
OhgeewhizamIexcited....
If you do go down, for bog's sake, take some pictures! You're a paying customer now, there's not excuse not to snoop around and make a general nuisance of yourself. :-)
You *do* realize how intimidated I am by the idea of taking lousy digital photos at a shop where I'm surrounded by fancy camera equipment and those who know how to use it, don't you?
But...if'n I go...I'll try. No promises. My camera doesn't care much for indoor lighting.
I'm still dumbfounded that it's done already. Want to keep calling and saying, "Wait...you're sure this is the big honkin' green Olympia that's done, right? The big honkin' Olympia that was *broken*??"
I have it back! And it's amazing! Everything works like new, it's squeaky clean, and it's the best typewriter in the house. Sorry, Bernard, but it's true. You still have the coolest typeface, though! *pats him on his huuuuuuge noggin*
More details once I fully sort out my NaNo space (I'm shuffling furniture on a last-minute whim) and get it settled!
Wonderful news, and just in time! I'll likely be using my SG-1 at some point later in the month (when I need the smaller type to trick myself into typing more words). I'll be eating myself up with jealousy that MINE didn't just get a nice refurb from Blue Moon.
(word verif. = "ancie" - I'm feelin' pretty ancie to get this novelling season underway...)
Mine has 11 pt. font...I wish in some ways that it was pica, but the in-between lets me trick myself into writing more pages while still being pretty easy to read and OCR.
I am a bundle of nervous energy now. Can't wait to get started. I'm passing the time writing up one final blog post (which no one will probably have time to read!) and trying to figure out if any of the pictures I took of Blue Moon are decent enough to share. It really is a cool little shop, though I still need to make it by Ace eventually.
I'm so glad you made the trip!! Can't wait to hear all about it! I also can't wait till mine is finished. I look forward to hearing about the SG1 adventure.
