Ack! One last edit! I think the typeface is actually 11 pt -- it's just taller and more open than my other 11 pt Olympia typeface (Stinky's), so it seems bigger. Closest match I can find in the typeface files in the Yahoo group is Senatorial, but I'm not 100% certain of that.
I guess I just accept it for what it is, without my usual over-analyzing. Whatever it is, I like it!

Coolest typeface EVER.
We really need a picture of this machine.
Once the rain stops again, I'd like to take pictures outside, since the lighting in here is lousy. I also want to take some shots with the same-era SM-9, for scale.
They make a great pair, I think! One for the desk, one for the road...if I ever get up the nerve to type in public.
I second that: it's absolutely sci-fi-riffic.
I'm suddenly getting that old familiar itch: even though I have way more machines than I can realistically sustain, I know that all of them have one of two typefaces. I need a little more variety in that regard.
Yeah, I think that's Senatorial. My mom's SM7 (?) has that typeface. She ordered it special, buying her machine from college from the dealer.
Nice find! At first, I thought you had gotten a Hermes 3k. The sans-serif typeface is almost identical.
Mike - thanks for the insight! I wonder why it's called Senatorial? To me, that makes me think of something no-nonsense, something like Times New Roman (bleh...), whereas this typeface makes me think of 80s sci-fi movies, with artificial-intelligence endowed computer terminals and such.
I actually have *two* Hermes 3000s at the moment, Olivander: one of the old rounded ones (it's very, very worn) and one of the boxy new ones. Both, alas, are an identical and rather plain elite typeface. I really don't need both of them! I'll probably let the squeaky-clean boxy one go at some point.
Elizabeth, I just got an SG1 yesterday, free as it turns out. Even though it needs a good cleaning and lube, you can tell it has that Olympia "touch". And it has the same typeface as yours. This will be my NaNoWriMo machine once I've got it going.
These desktop machines are just sooo good! First an Underwood Master from 1951 and now the SG1. Thank goodness I'm running out of room.
Jeff
Olympia put the typeface in tiny numbers between the upper & lower case slugs on the typekeys. If you look with a good magnifying glass you should see it. And yeah, I'm guessing you'll see a 71 for "senatorial"- I have an SM9 that has it.
It does indeed! Thank you for the tip! Actually it has 71 plus another number: 71/76(?). Not sure what the second number means.
This was a fun post to revisit!
