Smith Corona dreaming....
Had a couple of the portables out last night, actually. Fun...though it also clarified just how nice the big beast is. It doesn't move. It takes less effort to get a good imprint. It's much easier to go fast with accuracy. It's taller, so it's easier to see what I'm typing and easier to jot notes or corrections on my draft as I go. And it's just more comfortable for marathon typing sessions. Man, I'm lucky! I think at this point, I'm fast becoming primarily a sometime collector of portables and a user of a big ol' desktop. It's a bit more dull than the little guys, but (for me) it's a better writing machine.
But I do love the *snap* of that SCM. It just sounds and feels like a typewriter to me.

They are snappy, those 60's - 70's SC's. I think the one you are talking about is called "Sunburst Yellow," or so claims a page on the mrtypewriter.com Web site.
"Sunburst Yellow" sounds much...classier. But I'm not sure it's as accurate....
You know, I talked to my brother back home this weekend, and I completely forgot to ask about the typewriter. I'm sure it's long gone. My Dad went through a lot of toss-everything-not-nailed-down phases as we moved out, and nothing was spared out of sentiment. But I can't hope daydreaming...ya know? *sigh*
Just a note of appreciation, as I've just noticed your blog this morning. I'm part of one of those "last" generations to use typewriters to write term papers- and am glad I saved mine, but I admit to considering myself alone in choosing to type envelopes, cheques, and memos! My Dad also did his big retirement cleaning- and I was luckily present to rescue his go-everywhere Olivetti 32.
