Vignette #5 - The Big Old Tree

I sat down and read a bunch of definitions of what a vignette should be, and I think I'm more confused than ever. I'm not sure most of my previous blurbs qualify, and I'm equally unsure about this one, but it's what I wrote, so it's what you get...

vignette5

Awful lot of repeated phrases and words and other such things, but this being a typecast...what you see is what you get.

Um I didn't really mean that you had to conform to any set definition. I define vignette as a short piece of some sort... Pick your own, honestly. Don't conform if you don't want to.

Oh, I was the one looking for a definition. I don't think you'd tied us down in any way. ;) It's a little comical how many ways the word is defined, though: some consider it a sketch, some a short piece that stands on its own but isn't quite a short story, and one definition said it should be "a short, graceful literary essay." Um...graceful, I am not, in life or in literature. So I was feeling a little defiant and defensive when I slapped up my disclaimers last night...
